UNEQUAL EDUCATIONUnequal education is something people should acknowledge and address. This problem recognizes the lack or insufficient education being given to children. It is unfair to see that education quality is determined by economic status. This is the disparity that certain students experience in their education as compared to other students. The measures of educational success focus on grades, test scores, drop-out rates, college entrance numbers, and college completion rates.

Causes unequal education
- Ongoing racial segregation. In some countries segregation continues, just like in America. Latinos, African Americans and White Americans are distributed in Public and Private school. The Latino and African American students has higher percentage of studying in public school as of White Americans. Data from the 2002–03 school year show that in Chicago, 87 percent of public school enrollment was Black or Hispanic; less than 10 percent of children in the schools were White.
- Unequal school resources. Because of race and class segregation and its relationship to local school revenues, students in high-poverty racially segregated schools are not exposed to high-quality curricula, highly qualified teachers, or important social networks. In the Philippines, unequal school resources occur in rural or less affluent areas. Most of these places affected by lack of resources are public schools, especially of those in mountainous places.
- Unequal academic opportunities. Academic opportunities are likely to be given to those students who get academic high test scores or to those who come from prestige schools. In the Philippines, students who tend to score higher are given more opportunity for better education. While in America, academic opportunities are based of race. White students are in the majority are more than twice as likely to offer a significant number of advanced placement classes, Black and Latino students with the same test scores as White and Asian students are less likely to be placed in accelerated courses and more likely to be placed in low-track academic course.
- Differential teacher quality. Even if students pay the same amount of tuition fee in different or similar schools their education lies on the teaching skills and qualification of their teachers. Most of the time teachers apply in schools that pay more than in schools who pay less but in demand of teachers. Teachers who have higher test scores, attended higher quality colleges and universities, and have more experience teaching mainly teach upper middle-class student.
Effects of unequal education
- Differential achievement levels. Since there is the presence of unequal education and students of different classes and race receive different level of education depending on where they study or how they are taught, their achievement varies differently. For example in America, since African American and Latino are receiving low quality education than Whites because of segregation, studies show African American and Latino students tend to fall back in studying. Sometimes they are even pulled back two grades while White Americans of the same batch continuously accelerate.
- Differential access to higher education. Students who come from prestige schools or study high quality education have greater access to better higher education and receive more offers. Students from public schools are less likely to pursue higher education basically because they don't pass or because they are not qualified enough. According to one study, the basis of entering higher education is high school competitions which are more likely experienced by White and Asian students in America and some picked out intelligent students.
Importance of Equal Opportunity
The consequences of failing to ensure educational success are far-reaching. The adverse impact is long term and reflected in future employment prospects, poverty and incarceration rates, as well as limited capacity to participate in the world community. Ensuring the education given to students despite their race, location and status is important. It is ones' right to have education and more to it is that quality education is suppose to distributed to all youth and not only given to picked out groups.
Promoting Equal Opportunity
1. Equitable funding. Widespread dependence on local property-tax revenues gives students living in school districts with high-priced residential or commercial property substantially greater resources to support their education than students residing in poorer districts. Public schools and state universities are funded by the government. Funding should not be limited to the needs with in the facility but also they need to take the extra mile to assure good education and students are given more programs of development and learning.
2. Quality teaching. High quality teachers are key determinants of students’ opportunities to be academically successful.16 Students of color and students from low income homes, historically, have less experienced teachers, teachers with less formal education and training. Equity efforts must focus on the distribution of teacher qualifications throughout the schools in the district.
